What is a CV?

A curriculum vita is a written overview of a person's experience and other qualifications for a job opportunity. Typically the first item that a potential employer encounters regarding the job seeker and is used to screen applicants, often followed by an interview .It should be divided into several sections as follows:

Personal Data

This includes:

* Full names of the applicant as in their National ID.
* Date of Birth or Age
* Contacts email, telephone and postal address
* Marital Status
* Gender

Education Background

The job seeker indicates the highest level of Education attained currently including schools attended and award given e.g. Certificate, Diploma or Degree

Work Experience

This is a chronological list of all the places the job seeker has worked starting from the most recent and should include exact period when one was in that position, position held and duties performed.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Contacting the clients seeking for partnership in business
2. Supporting the reception desk
3. Photocopying and scanning documents
4. Reporting and keeping track of visitors
5. Receiving cash in the office and issuing receipts
6. Answering incoming calls and emails.
7. Handling complex complains from our candidates in the absence of the director
8. Contacting Candidates giving them updates of their applied jobs


Most job seekers fail in this section as the people indicated are relatives. Unless you have never worked before the referees indicated should be from your previous employment and must have supervised you directly even if they have moved from the organization. For instance if you never dealt directly with the Director or General Manager he should not be your referee since he/she did not deal with you, there was a supervisor.

The referees should be three (3) in number and their current contacts email or telephone clearly indicated. If the job seeker has never worked before then they can put contacts of their class teacher, Head teacher or Religious
leader as referees as well as relatives.


It is also essential to indicate ones hobbies and interests as well as affiliation to clubs in their CV in order to give an impression of the job seekers relaxation activities while not working or for purposes of inclusion in the organizations formed work life balance group activities.


-Always present an up to date CV when applying for a vacancy
-Confirm correct spelling of the document before printing
-A CV can be tailored to suit the position applied for hence do not present a standard CV for every position.
